Amazon doesn’t have much time left to cast their Kratos, since production on the TV series adaptation of God of War is scheduled to start in March 2026.
Based on reports from Nexus Point News, a media outlet that covers TV and comics, it’s alleged that the main filming will commence in Vancouver next year.
Ronald D. Moore, known for Battlestar Galactica, has been appointed as the lead creative director, with a team of talented writers such as Matthew Graham from Electric Dreams, Stephanie Shannon from For All Mankind, Narendra K. Shankar from The Expanse, Joe Menosky from For All Mankind, Marc D. Bernardin from The Continental, and Tania Lotia from The Witcher, joining him on the project.
In a previous conversation with IGN, Moore expressed that the progress of the series is moving smoothly, and he was particularly struck by the expansive and intricate mythology embedded within this video game.
Additionally, he verified that the upcoming series will draw inspiration from the 2018 adaptation of God of War, thereby centering around Norse legends and Kratos’ odyssey alongside his son Atreus, as they set out to honor their deceased mother by dispersing her remains.
The process of selecting actors seems to be advanced now, and it’s expected that the shooting will commence within the next six months.
It’s intriguing who will secure the part of Kratos, as his imposing size and physique almost give the impression of a character that leaps off the screen, surpassing reality. Previous on-screen portrayals of this character have unfortunately come across more like amateur cosplay attempts.
Indeed, let’s discuss that point. It’s quite intriguing to contemplate how they plan to fund this series considering the high cost associated with it. Although there are numerous heartfelt, human scenes in the contemporary God of War games, the need for a significant amount of computer-generated imagery (CG) to portray it convincingly makes this franchise appear quite costly to adapt.
