The game New World: Aeternum launched on PlayStation 5 in October 2024, but Amazon Game Studios has announced it will be removed from sale on all platforms today, January 15th, 2026.
This game will soon be removed from digital stores, and the entire online world will shut down completely on January 31st, 2027.
So, in a nutshell, if you already own New World, you can still play it until it’s shut down.
It was clear the game wouldn’t be updated much longer. Last October, the team announced it was “no longer sustainable” to continue adding new content.
New World started as a big, hopeful project for Amazon, backed by significant investment with the goal of shaking up the massively multiplayer online game world.
The game initially gained a lot of hype, but it quickly lost momentum on computers. It was then reworked and launched on gaming consoles under the name ‘Aeternum,’ but unfortunately, this didn’t improve its chances of lasting success.
It’s too bad New World didn’t fully succeed, because it had some good concepts. The combat was engaging, and the game’s island world offered a fairly fresh experience.
