Since Grey’s Anatomy season 22 began in 2025, Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital has seen a lot happen. Sadly, Beltran was the only victim of last season’s hospital explosion. The show also recently celebrated its 450th episode, which is a significant achievement, particularly as many TV series are now producing fewer episodes each season. Amelia Finally Kisses A Woman On-Screen In Grey’s Anatomy
Following the winter break in season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy, which also marked the end of Amelia’s time away from work, the latest episode shows her refreshed and ready to return. Amelia had taken a break after the tragic death of Beltran, with whom she was forming a close connection. This time off appears to have been very beneficial, as she’s not only eager to resume her career but also seems to have rediscovered her passion for life.
It’s immediately clear she’s attracted to Dr. Toni Wright, the new surgeon at Grey Sloan, and doesn’t hesitate to kiss her. Warren is eager to make a good impression, but it’s revealed that Toni and Amelia have a past – they went to medical school together. Amelia remembers Toni disliking her, but Toni reveals she actually had a crush on her. Instead of getting coffee as planned, they decide to share a private kiss.
Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia on Grey’s Anatomy, made history with the first on-screen kiss between two women in the show’s history. While Amelia has shown romantic interest in women before – notably with characters played by Bartley and Beltran – the storylines always focused on building tension rather than letting a relationship develop. Those potential connections never became fully realized. Now, it seems Amelia is ready to pursue something more direct and isn’t holding back.
What Amelia’s Budding Relationship Means For Grey’s Anatomy Season 22’s Future

From the beginning, with Meredith and Derek, to current couples like Jo and Link balancing their relationship and family, romance is always present. However, the show is also famous for its sad moments, and Amelia has certainly experienced her share of heartbreak.
The recent kiss between Amelia Shepherd and a returning character suggests that Grey’s Anatomy might be setting up a significant romance for Caterina Scorsone in the upcoming season. While it’s too early to tell if this connection will last, the actor is scheduled to appear in multiple episodes, and a positive fan reaction could definitely lead to a full-blown relationship.
