Warning: This story contains major spoilers from the Aug. 14 episode of And Just Like That.
And just like that, Sex and the City’s latest chapter has come to a close.
As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness when the August 14th episode of “And Just Like That” wrapped up the sequel series. For the second time, we bid farewell to our beloved trio-Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis)-as their stories concluded in the final season’s finale. The iconic ladies have left an indelible mark on my heart, and I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia as I reflect on their journey together.
Following the conclusion of her extended relationship with long-term partner Aidan Shaw (played by John Corbett), and a short-lived fling with neighbor Duncan Reeves (Jonathan Cake), Carrie was engrossed in finalizing her newest book, a historical romance that drew inspiration from various aspects of her personal experiences.
Towards the conclusion, Carrie decided to embrace the notion of being single for the first time, a situation she refused to label as a ‘tragedy.’ On the contrary, as she wrapped up her novel, she intentionally emphasized that her character, and maybe herself, was not lonely but rather ‘independent,’ or in other words, ‘on her own.’
In the second last episode of season three, there was a disagreement between Miranda and her 20-year-old son Brady (Niall Cunningham). The dispute stemmed from Brady’s reaction to Miranda inviting the baby’s mother (Ella Stiller) for Thanksgiving without informing him beforehand.
However, during the climax of Thanksgiving, Miranda’s dinner disaster (which was far more than just a simple mishap) seemed to lead her to acknowledge the turbulence in her life. With her colleague-turned-girlfriend Joy (Dolly Wells) by her side, she appeared to accept the disorder.
In my role as a lifestyle advisor, let me share a situation that resonated with me recently. I’m talking about Charlotte, whose partner, Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler), was on a healing journey following surgery due to prostate cancer. This period also included challenges related to erectile dysfunction. However, just as we all plan our Thanksgivings, the unexpected happened – signs of vitality returned to Harry’s life, causing an unforeseen yet joyful interruption in their plans. Overwhelmed with gratitude for this new chapter in their intimacy, they spontaneously seized the moment and found themselves expressing heartfelt thanks, not just over a meal, but in a more personal way.
In the final episode, the story arcs of Seema Patel, portrayed by Sarita Choudhury, and Lisa Todd Wexley, played by Nicole Ari Parker, who joined the group in season 1 of AJLT, were concluded. After some casual remarks about weddings from Seema’s boyfriend Adam (Logan Marshall-Green), both women individually assured Carrie that their relationship didn’t necessitate any formal ceremonies.
As Lisa pondered her emotions towards her editor Marion (Mehcad Brooks) all through the season, she eventually established limits in their professional bond prior to reaffirming her loyalty to her spouse Herbert (Christopher Jackson).
Before the show came to its end, Sarah Jessica Parker reminisced about her long journey playing Carrie Bradshaw. She acknowledged and honored the character’s close friends, including Kim Cattrall, who brought Samantha Jones to life.
In her August 1st Instagram post, she expressed that Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte will always be the best friends anyone could ask for. She also mentioned how fortunate Carrie was to meet and grow fond of Seema and LTW, describing these new friendships as truly divine connections.
For the past 27 years, Carrie Bradshaw has held a significant place in my professional affections. To put it simply, I believe that among all others, she is the one I’ve admired the most.
Keep reading for a look back at the most memorable romantic arcs from the SATC franchise.
Ugh, what an a–hole.
Best moment: N/A.
Finding recall of their lighthearted, playful, and sweet beginnings challenging, given the author’s subsequent behavior filled with negative undertones, is quite understandable. The dramatic breakup via a Post-it note left an indelible mark.
Best moment: None are coming to mind at the moment, Berger. We’re sorry, we can’t. Don’t hate us.
No one believed this relationship would last, right? Still, Samantha gave it the ol’ college try.
Highlighting Moment: Following an evening spent with Carrie and her latest companion, where Samantha advised Big to keep his distance, Maria expressed that she couldn’t maintain a friendship with Samantha.
When viewers tuned in to Max’s revival series, “And Just Like That…”, they probably didn’t expect Miranda to divorce her husband and chase after a stand-up comedian across the country.
Most Humorous Incident: The most amusing part must undoubtedly be when Che and Miranda ended up together in Carrie’s kitchen, all the while a post-hip-surgery Carrie was experiencing an embarrassing moment by wetting her bed.
It initially seemed like the Russian had an overly romantic connection that was unrealistic… and indeed, it turned out to be so. He found it difficult to get along with his partner’s friends, and Carrie’s spontaneous decision to move to Paris ended up causing problems.
Most memorable moment: Following a series of overly romantic acts, Carrie found herself utterly smitten. Thus, it was only fitting that Petrovsky led her, resplendent in her fairytale gown, to McDonald’s, where they shared a slow dance as they waited for their fries. And so did we find ourselves swooning.
Initially, Trey seemed like an ideal match for Charlotte on paper. However, fault lines emerged in their relationship fairly quickly, such as his overbearing mother, impotence issues, and lack of desire to have children, among others. Additionally, a particularly strange incident occurred when he gave her a cardboard cut-out baby – can you believe it?
Optimal memory: The most heartwarming instance occurred when Trey escorted Charlotte to Tiffany’s, enabling her to select her ideal ring as a gesture to amend his well-known “Alrighty!” remark.
In a change of pace for Samantha, her non-sexual relationship concluded due to, quite literally, sexual complications – specifically, the matter of size in this instance referring to James’ smaller stature.
Best moment: When Samantha told James she loved him. A huge (no pun intended) moment for her.
Poor, poor Skipper. He was kind of like a Steve-lite, and Miranda was able to walk all over him.
Best moment: When he calls her “luminous” during their chance meeting at a bodega.
It was a surprise in the films that Carrie’s close friend and Charlotte’s wedding planner who became a best friend eventually got together, but it feels fitting to us.
Most cherished instant: At the altar during their vows, Anthony expressed, “Love didn’t strike immediately, yet in retrospect, it was love all along. You were the first one to embrace and appreciate the real me.
To put it plainly, Aidan was indeed a wonderful individual, yet he wasn’t The One for Carrie – no matter how much they both wished and strived to believe otherwise. Nevertheless, the second season of “And Just Like That…” might show that taking another shot is the most popular fashion this summer. (We choose to ignore their brief encounter in “Sex and the City 2.”)
Most memorable moment: Isn’t it peculiar that we found their second breakup scene poignant, where they slept on the cold floor of the flat they would never share as a couple?
Discuss the issue at hand. Despite Robert being nearly flawless, a standout doctor for the New York Knicks who shared the same soap opera taste as Miranda, he lacked something – he simply wasn’t Steve.
Most cherished memory: Sharing their first kiss, reminiscent of meeting at lockers or mailboxes. Alternatively, the special occasion when she took a personal day off work for the very first time on his account. Or, the significant experience dealing with chicken pox together.
Among all the male characters from Sex and the City, Smith Jerrod could very well be the finest. He exhibited remarkable patience and generosity towards Samantha, a woman known for her fierce resistance against falling in love with the model-turned-celebrity.
Most touching memory: Isn’t it heartwarming to reflect on the moment when Smith courageously cut off his beautiful long hair, in support of Samantha, who had to shave hers due to chemotherapy treatment?
Absof–kinglutely. (Curse you, Peloton!)
Most Memorable Scene: What about that unforgettable instant when Big surprises Carrie by revealing his feelings for her in Paris? (Even though the bed fart/whoopie cushion trick continues to bring a chuckle.)
Just as the affection for Miranda and Steve unexpectedly grew within us, the fondness for this pair took us aback, much like the shocking separation they experienced during the initial season of “And Just Like That”. Long live Steve!
My Favorite Memory: A moment that truly embodies the effortlessly charming pair of SATC, undoubtedly is when Miranda unexpectedly proposed, and they chose a simple, intimate park ceremony for their wedding. Oh so them! Oh so fitting.
In an unexpected twist, I’ve found that true love frequently surprises us when we least anticipate it…much like discovering that the perspiring, somewhat gruff divorce attorney you initially met in court turns out to be the man who captures your heart and becomes an exceptional father figure to your children.
Favorite Memory: The slightly disorganized yet flawlessly charming wedding ceremony. Right from the start of the series, Charlotte dreamt of a storybook wedding, but instead, she found herself in a beautifully imperfect marriage.
What truly matters most in life is your loved ones, the family that binds us together. There will be moments when you cherish them deeply and others where frustrations arise, but ultimately they are the people who welcome you back at the end of each day. Sometimes it’s the family you’re given at birth, and other times it’s the one you consciously choose to build.
Most memorable scene: We nearly picked Carrie escorting Miranda at her mother’s funeral as our top moment, but we felt a group scene was more fitting. Our selection goes to when Miranda shows no interest in her own wedding after learning about Samantha’s breast cancer diagnosis, with all four friends disregarding the festivities to comfort each other instead. This is what friendship embodies: placing others’ needs above your own.
