David Boreanaz has received the approval of James Garner’s daughter before taking on the starring role in NBC’s revival of The Rockford Files.
Emilio Boreanaz will be playing Jim Rockford, the iconic private detective originally portrayed by James Garner in the classic series The Rockford Files, which aired from 1974 to 1980 and was later revived with eight television movies.
Gigi Garner, whose father died in 2014 at the age of 86, shared on social media that she’d discussed the possibility of the Angel actor appearing in a new version of the beloved TV show.
“So, I recently got a call from David Boreanaz,” noted Gigi on X, formerly known as Twitter.
She enthusiastically expressed her full support, saying, “He’s absolutely capable of succeeding! This is going to be fantastic!” She also added the hashtags #PureClass and #Jimbo.

James Garner played the lead role of Jim Rockford in the NBC series for all six seasons and received several Emmy nominations for his acting. He won an Emmy in 1977 for best actor in a drama series.
He also starred in eight TV movies based on the show between 1994 and 1999.
Emilio Boreanaz is well-known to television viewers for his work on shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off, Angel, where he played the lead character.

Deadline reports the new Rockford Files is being described as a modern take on the original show.
After being wrongly convicted and recently released from prison, James Rockford starts working as a private investigator in Los Angeles, relying on his personality and intelligence to crack cases.
Right from the start, the main character’s attempts to go straight put him directly in the line of fire – he’s quickly caught between the cops and some very dangerous criminals. It’s a classic setup, but it works!
