Season 3 of *Spy x Family* has begun as part of the Fall 2025 anime season, and it’s already gaining attention. The second episode starts to reveal Loid Forger’s difficult past, which fans of the manga already know is quite sad. The anime will soon show how he became the spy known as Twilight. Loid is a popular and heroic character who is dedicated to preventing war between Westalis and Ostania. The story centers around his toughest mission yet, Operation Strix, where he must build a fake family to get close to Donovan Desmond.
Loid is completely committed to his mission, and there’s a heartbreaking reason behind his determination to end the war. Many viewers suspect Loid is also an orphan, like Yor Forger, and the next episode will finally reveal his full history. Takuya Eguchi, the actor who voices Loid, has shared his insights on the backstory and how it will affect the audience.
Loid’s Voice Actor Believes Spy x Family’s Most Tragic Backstory Will Change Fans’ Impression of Him

Takuya Eguchi, in an interview with *Mantan Web*, shared that Loid reveals in the first episode his motivation for becoming a spy: he wants to build a world where children are spared suffering. This desire stems from Loid’s own difficult past, as he experienced hardship when war erupted between the two nations.
Eguchi explained that while Loid appears flawless after his spy training, he used to be more vulnerable and emotional. He believes the flashback scene showing Loid crying was likely the last time he genuinely did so, as he rarely displays emotion after becoming a spy, usually only for comedic effect. Eguchi felt this showcased Loid’s humanity more than usual.
He explained that while Loid’s personality won’t change, the upcoming backstory will give viewers a new understanding of his motivations and why he’s so dedicated to his missions. The flashback reveals that Loid lost his childhood and much of his life due to a senseless war, and he’s determined to prevent such a conflict from ever happening again. This backstory will be relatively brief, concluding in Season 3, Episode 3, before the story returns to the present moment – where Loid collapses after witnessing Anya being struck by a second Tonitrus Bolt.
Loid’s history is incredibly sad and surprised fans when it was revealed in the manga. However, those difficult experiences are what made him such a skilled spy. You can currently watch Season 3 on Crunchyroll and Netflix, along with the first two seasons. So far, only the subtitled versions of the newest season are available; the English dub is still coming soon.
