Anime’s Creepiest Body Horror Returns in 2026

Anime could really use more horror, but some classic series deliver truly unsettling stories. Parasyte is one of the best, known for its disturbing and nightmarish depictions of the human body. Originally a manga from the 1980s, Parasyte is making a comeback, with big plans for 2026. This summer will see an exhibition dedicated to the series, and to mark the occasion, several well-known anime artists are creating works inspired by the body horror themes of Parasyte.

The Parasyte Exhibition will run from June 6th to June 21st at the Yokohama Coast in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The exhibit will showcase over 400 original drawings by author Hitoshi Iwaaki, offering a close look at the artwork behind the Parasyte series. Visitors can experience the story in a unique way through these original manuscripts. To celebrate the exhibition, artwork from 25 artists connected to Parasyte and other well-known creators will also be displayed. These artists, who are fans of the series, have contributed original pieces for the event. You can find more information on the official website.

Who Will Celebrate Parasyte?

The upcoming Parasyte tribute exhibit will feature artwork from many well-known manga creators, including Hajime Isayama, Masayuki Ishikawa, Masakazu Ishiguro, Riichi Ueshiba, Shun Umezawa, Hiroki Endo, Moare Ota, Hiroya Oku, Takatoshi Kumakura, Gamon Sakurai, Hiroaki Samura, Misaki Takamatsu, Ikada Tsuruma, PEACH-PIT, Asa Higuchi, Akira Hiramoto, Kosuke Fujishima, Hiro Mashima, Ryoji Minagawa, Tsubasa Yamaguchi, Makoto Yukimura, Nobunaga Shimazaki, Aya Hirano, Shota Sometani, and Yuki Iwai (Haraichi). Currently, the exhibit is only confirmed for Japan, but fans are hoping the artwork will be shared online so everyone around the world can enjoy it.

I’m so excited! It feels like ages since we got the awesome animated version of Parasyte from Studio Madhouse back in 2014 with Parasyte -The Maxim. While there was a spin-off manga, Parasyte Reversi, in 2018, we haven’t seen that animated yet. And then recently, we got a live-action series called Parasyte: The Grey, which tells a brand new story within the same universe – just like Reversi did. We’re still waiting to hear about a second season of the live-action show or maybe even a new anime, but the good news is, the world of Parasyte* is definitely coming back this year! I can’t wait to see what they do with it.
