Anne Hathaway’s Met Gala 2026 Dress Is An Ode to the Grecian Urn

Anne Hathaway once again proved that she knows all about this stuff.

The star of The Devil Wears Prada made a stunning appearance at the 2026 Met Gala, perfectly capturing the night’s “Fashion Is Art” theme. She wore a beautiful gown by Michael Kors, uniquely decorated with hand-painted artwork by Peter McGough. (Check out all the celebrity outfits from the Met Gala!)

Anne was joined by Michael to model the stunning outfit, which featured a dramatic V-neck and artwork including a bird and a depiction of Irene, the Greek goddess of Peace.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m always excited about the Met Gala, and this year was no exception! Anne Hathaway made a stunning appearance on May 4th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “Costume Art” themed benefit. It was her ninth time attending, and she joined an incredible group of co-chairs – Anna Wintour, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams. It’s always a night to see and be seen, and this year’s event definitely delivered!

She’s been to the Met Gala three times wearing Valentino since first attending in 2009, but the 43-year-old has also become known for honoring legendary fashion figures with her outfits.

The white tweed Versace dress she wore in 2023 was a stylish update to a famous design from the 1990s. It cleverly honored both Gianni Versace, the brand’s founder, and the evening’s theme, celebrating Karl Lagerfeld, who led Chanel creatively for 36 years before passing away in 2019.

Last year’s outfit – a crisp white Carolina Herrera shirt and a sparkling, beaded skirt with 200,000 embellishments – quietly honored the late André Leon Talley, a longtime editor at Vogue. He was the first journalist to interview the designer when she started her own brand in 1981.

In a 2025 interview with Vogue outside the Met Gala, Anne Hathaway explained that while they wanted to be inclusive, the outfit was specifically designed to honor the late André Leon Talley. She said, ‘We wanted him to look down and be thrilled with the glamour of it all.’

In any case, her outfit was the opposite of dreckitude.

The Academy Award-winning actress doesn’t need a special event to enjoy putting together an outfit and expressing herself through fashion.

As Anne Hathaway explained in the introduction to stylist Erin Walsh’s new book, The Art of Intentional Dressing, true style isn’t something you purchase—it’s something you develop. She believes style is a form of expression—you can use it to share aspects of yourself or to keep certain things private. According to Hathaway, fashion is simply how you personally connect with clothing.

This time, she can simply let her outfit make a statement. Check out all the stunning looks from the 2026 Met Gala…
