Another Highly Regarded PSVR2 Dev on the Brink After Mass Layoffs

Survios, the studio behind games like Alien: Rogue Incursion and CREED: Rise to Glory, has significantly reduced its workforce with widespread layoffs.

Game Developer has reportedly laid off most of its staff, according to a series of LinkedIn posts. Combat designer Dylan Ralston stated that the studio in Los Angeles will be closing down, and all employees involved in game development are being terminated.

Senior game designer Alissa Smith confirmed the claim, stating that she and most of the Survios development team were affected by recent layoffs. Tim Schumann, a senior technical sound designer, also announced his job loss, adding that he had anticipated it for some time.

Survios, a leading VR game developer, has created experiences for both PSVR and PSVR2, including popular titles like Sprint Vector, Raw Data, Alien, and CREED. Their recent Alien: Rogue Incursion was initially planned as the first part of a larger story, so today’s announcement may affect whether a second part will be made.

This news comes after Polyarc, the studio behind the highly-rated Moss games for PlayStation VR, recently had to lay off a significant number of employees. They were unable to find new funding after a large project they were working on was cancelled.

The new game, Alien: Rogue Incursion, has received generally positive, though somewhat mixed, reviews, with a score of 74 on Metacritic.
