People who enjoy the Terminator movies are about to get a lot more content to explore, with new adventures coming soon.
The Terminator, released in 1984, launched James Cameron’s famous sci-fi series. The story mainly centers on the Connor family and focuses on relentless killer robots sent from a devastated future to stop John Connor from leading the fight against the machines. While the series hasn’t been as strong since Cameron stopped directing, a particularly well-regarded movie is now becoming available on a new streaming platform.
Starting April 1st, you’ll be able to watch Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Terminator Genisys (2015), and Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) on Paramount+. Terminator 2 is often considered the best movie in the Terminator series, so fans will be excited about this addition to the streaming service. While opinions differ on the other two films, they both offer something for fans of the franchise.
Following Linda Hamilton’s survival in The Terminator, T2 features Sarah Connor and her son John (Edward Furlong) battling a new Terminator, the T-1000 (Robert Patrick). This time, they’re aided by a reprogrammed Arnold Schwarzenegger T-800. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines continues this pattern, while Terminator Salvation shifts the story to the midst of the war against the machines.
Many consider Terminator Genisys to be a low point for the Terminator series, significantly complicating the established timeline. Despite this, some fans might find it entertaining as a ‘guilty pleasure’ or as a source of debate about the convoluted plot. In contrast, Terminator: Dark Fate was generally better received, offering a more focused story about an older Sarah Connor guiding a new potential savior (Natalia Reyes) and her protector (Mackenzie Davis).
After a new animated series, Terminator Zero, quietly ended after one season, the Terminator franchise is now becoming more centrally controlled. Terminator Zero debuted on Netflix in 2024 and received positive reviews (87% on Rotten Tomatoes) for its exploration of the series’ core themes – fate and the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence – alongside impressive animation. However, showrunner Mattson Tomlin recently announced on social media that the show has been cancelled after a period of silence.
Where You Can Watch The Other 3 Terminator Movies (& 2 TV Shows)
The Terminator movies haven’t always been easy to find on streaming services. While it’s great to have three of them together now, fans might still want to watch the classic first film or see the entire series. Currently, The Terminator is streaming on HBO Max, and Terminator Zero is available on Netflix. You can rent or buy Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation digitally, including on Prime Video.
From 2008 to 2009, the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles ran for two seasons. Starring Summer Glau (known from Firefly) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), it’s often considered a hidden gem within the Terminator story and can be purchased on Prime Video, either episode by episode or as complete seasons.
It might be tough being a Terminator fan these days, but the original Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day are still easy to find on streaming services due to their popularity. Plus, there’s a lot more to the Terminator universe to enjoy, and Paramount+ will be the place to find it.
