Embark Studios’ ARC Raiders launches in under ten days, and early tests have been very successful – it’s currently one of the top five best-selling games on Steam worldwide! The game, which is a shooter where players collect items and escape, will have plenty to offer at launch, including a wide variety of weapons, ways to improve your character, the option to start over if you want a fresh challenge, and at least five different maps to play on.
Looking ahead, the game’s developers have a long-term vision. According to design director Virgil Watkins, speaking at TwitchCon, they consider this a project they’ll be working on for the next decade. This ambition influences the amount and type of content they plan to create.
Although some players might be wary, given past experiences with ambitious long-term plans like the game MindsEye, the developers at Embark are being more cautious about making promises about future updates. They won’t share specific roadmap details right now, as plans can change. However, they are planning to add new maps, enemies, and weapons, and expand existing storylines, meaning fresh content is on the way.
We have plans for content releases right after launch, and for a short period afterward. Then, we’ll adjust our content schedule based on how the launch goes and what our audience needs.
The cooperative third-person shooter ARC Raiders will be released on October 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Embark Studios, the game’s developer, delayed the launch for three years to improve the gameplay experience. They also shared that playtesting, inspired by Bungie’s Marathon, helped them make important design choices. You can find more information about the game here.
