Hamster Corporation, collaborating with Bandai Namco, has announced the release of ‘Arcade Archives Aqua Jet‘ on multiple platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 4, as well as Nintendo Switch. The PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2 versions will retail for $16.99, while the PS4 and Switch versions will be priced at $14.99. Those who buy the PS4 or Switch versions can upgrade to the PS5 or Switch 2 versions for just $2.99. The game is set to release on August 14.
Here is an overview of the game, via Hamster Corporation:
The game titled “Aqua Jet” was introduced by Namco Limited (now known as Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc.) back in 1996. This marine sports game was particularly notable due to its expansive jet ski-style arcade cabinet. Experience the excitement of racing on shimmering waves, basked in the radiant sun, in a visually stunning, resort-like atmosphere, all powered by the System Super 22 hardware!
The Arcade Archives (ACA) series meticulously replicates timeless arcade game masterpieces, preserving their authenticity. You have the flexibility to tailor game settings according to your preference, including adjusting difficulty levels, and for some titles, you can rekindle the vintage ambiance of old CRT TVs from yesteryears. Furthermore, this series allows you to challenge players worldwide by competing for top scores via online leaderboards.
Beyond the existing “Original Mode,” “High Score Mode,” and “Caravan Mode” found in the Arcade Archives collection, the new Arcade Archives 2 series introduces additional features like “Time Trial Mode” and “Online Multiplayer Mode.” In “Time Trial Mode,” players race to defeat the final boss as swiftly as possible starting from the initial battle. This mode prioritizes speed over score accumulation. In “Online Multiplayer Mode,” you can challenge other users online, though not all games may support these new features.
Beyond this, improvements have been made to the functionality. Now, there are multiple save points available instead of just one. Plus, a rewind function is included, allowing players to retry parts of the game if needed. There’s also a quick start feature for those who prefer jumping right into the action. Lastly, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support has been incorporated, providing a more authentic arcade gameplay experience as it was originally designed.
