Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are unlimited together.
For example, when Cynthia lost her voice right before the New York City premiere of Wicked: For Good on November 17th, her fellow cast member readily offered to take her place in answering press questions.
Ariana explained to Justin Sylvester of TopMob News, during a conversation with Cynthia, that she’s preventing her from speaking because she needs to rest her voice.
Cynthia was deeply moved that the premiere of the final Wicked movie was happening so close to Broadway, remarking with emotion, “It feels wonderful to end this journey where it all began.”
“No more,” Ariana—visibly concerned about Cynthia’s voice—told her castmate. “I’m sorry.”
In a message to her fans, the singer explained that she’s experiencing a sore throat but they’re taking care of it and determined to make the show happen. She apologized for the inconvenience and expressed her love and gratitude for their understanding, acknowledging that everyone has their limits.
Cynthia and Ariana are widely considered the best team ever. Just recently, at the Singapore premiere of their movie musical, Cynthia quickly stepped in to protect Ariana from an overly enthusiastic fan.
After going through a lot together, both personally and professionally, the 38-year-old actress spoke about her close relationship with Ariana, 32, following a recent event. She explained that they’ve faced challenges and that working on this film helped them grow closer as friends, like sisters, and as both people and artists.
Still, Cynthia is grateful to have been a part of the journey.

As a lifestyle expert, one of the most rewarding things I’ve witnessed with this film is how deeply people connect with the story and, specifically, with this character. It’s incredibly moving to hear from viewers who feel seen and, even more powerfully, feel safe because of it. Honestly, that’s the ultimate goal for me with any creative project – to make a real impact on people’s lives. And I’m so grateful for the journey of making this film, especially the connection I forged with the person right beside me – it was essential to bringing this vision to life.
Though Wicked: For Good concludes the journeys of Cynthia and Ariana’s characters, Elphaba and Glinda, the actresses believe their bond means they’ll always remain close friends.
Cynthia recently said on the Wicked: The Official Podcast that she believes this experience will stay with them for a long time – and she sees that as a positive thing. She feels it’s something wonderful to hold onto.
