Ghost of Yotei dev doesn’t anticipate a future where it’s juggling multiple projects at once.
The Seattle studio has consistently been a key developer for PlayStation for many years. However, as games take longer to create, some players were hoping the team could work on multiple games simultaneously.
Recently, people have been talking a lot about Sly Cooper and inFAMOUS – two games the company used to make.
Nate Fox, the creative director, recently told Minnmax that only about 10% of people at the studio are eager to revisit the Sly Cooper story, as it’s been a long time since they last developed a game in the series.
YouTuber Suzi Hunter jokingly asked for both inFAMOUS games to be re-released, and her post quickly became popular online.
In a recent VGC interview, Sucker Punch studio head Brian Fleming explained that the team’s size limits what they can accomplish, as they intend to continue working as one primary development group.
He explained:
We’ve proven we can handle multiple projects at once, which means we could potentially remaster old games, work on fan requests, and create several new things. However, we only have the resources to focus on one project at a time. That makes choosing the *right* project incredibly important. There are plenty of good ideas, but we can only pursue one, and these opportunities only come around every five years, so it needs to be a really solid choice.
Sony could easily have other developers create updated versions of games like inFAMOUS or a new Sly Cooper title. Actually, Sanzaru Games already developed the most recent Sly Cooper game.
If Sucker Punch is effective, it will likely come at a cost, as it seems to only be able to handle one task at a time.
Ghost of Yotei just came out, and we’re already curious: what should the developers create next? Would you prefer they stick with open-world historical games, try something totally different, or revisit one of their previous series?
