Microsoft is re-evaluating its policy of bringing Xbox-exclusive games to platforms like PlayStation. This comes as new Xbox head Asha Sharma aims to strengthen the Xbox brand. Games they’ve already released on PlayStation 5 have generally been well-received.
Recently, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 was released on PS5 in an improved version. According to Ninja Theory’s latest financial report, the game’s release on PlayStation 5 was a success, leading to a £5 million profit. Now, the studio is starting work on new games, so fans can expect more titles from Ninja Theory in the future.
Hard sales numbers weren’t shared, however.
Microsoft has seen significant success bringing its games to PlayStation 5, particularly with Forza Horizon 5, which has sold over five million copies on the platform. They’re also planning to release Forza Horizon 6 on PS5, but it won’t be available at the same time as the Xbox and PC versions this month; it’s currently scheduled for release on PS5 later in 2026.
Recent sales data for PlayStation 5 games shows strong purchases of Oblivion Remastered, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and DOOM: The Dark Ages.
Last month, Microsoft’s Asha Sharma announced they’re reconsidering their policy of making games exclusive to Xbox. This could mean some games currently only available on Xbox might not stay that way, potentially impacting whether titles like Hellblade 2 will come to PS5. However, for games like Hellblade 2 that didn’t perform as well as hoped initially, releasing a PS5 version could be a way to earn more money and find greater success, and Ninja Theory, the game’s developer, believes this strategy has been effective.
