Travis Knight and LAIKA, the team behind the wonderful film Kubo and the Two Strings, are working together again on what promises to be another fantastic animated movie called Wildwood. While LAIKA has shared some pictures, the recently released trailer truly captures the magical feel of the film and suggests it will be something truly special.
Wildwood is the latest stop-motion animated film from the creators of beloved movies like Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline, and ParaNorman. Like those films, Wildwood boasts beautiful and distinctive animation, and promises an epic, emotionally resonant adventure. The trailer mixes charming, imaginative scenes with powerful and suspenseful moments, and we’re excited to see the finished movie. You can view the trailer below.
What Is Wildwood About?

The series Wildwood follows Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), a determined teenager, who must enter a magical, secret forest called the Impassable Wilderness when her baby brother is kidnapped by crows. She’s joined by her classmate Curtis Mehlberg (Jacob Tremblay), and together they encounter talking animals, outlaws, and influential characters, all motivated by sadness and their own desires.
Prue and Curtis become caught in a fight to save the forest, and this struggle becomes connected to Prue’s personal quest. To rescue her brother and protect the magical Wildwood, Prue must take huge risks and find inner strength she didn’t know she possessed. LAIKA describes Wildwood as a grand story about love, sacrifice, and the wonders that appear when we venture beyond what we know.
Wildwood boasts an impressive cast featuring Carey Mulligan, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Richard E. Grant, Awkwafina, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Charlie Day, Blythe Danner, Arthur Knight, Maya Erskine, Jake Johnson, Tantoo Cardinal, Rob Delaney, Jermaine Clement, Marc Evan Jackson, Len Carlou, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Angela Bassett, and Mahershala Ali.
Wildwood soars into theaters later this summer.
