After much speculation, Ubisoft has officially revealed Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced. This remake of the popular PS4 and PS3 game aims to stay true to the original and will be available on PS5 on July 9th, 2026, for $60.
This updated version of the game breathes new life into the beloved pirate adventure. While staying true to the original, it’s been completely rebuilt using the latest Anvil Engine and includes numerous enhancements. You’ll still experience the same story and play as Edward Kenway, but with significantly improved immersion and realism.
Even with many new features and improvements, Ubisoft wants to assure fans that Resynced will still feel like the original game – it won’t be a role-playing game like some of their newer titles.
Richard Knight, the game’s director, explained that Assassin’s Creed: Black Resynced is a passion project for both the development team and the fans. They spent considerable time carefully rebuilding it to ensure quality. He emphasized that the game is designed as a single-player, story-focused experience, and it won’t be an RPG.
Ubisoft is retelling the original game’s story, but with more content. They’ve added new quests that focus on both familiar characters and brand-new ones. These new characters – Lucy Baldwin (The Padre) and Deadman Smith – join your crew and offer unique skills in naval battles. You’ll also get to know them better through quests that reveal their personal histories.
The ship-based gameplay has been significantly improved. Battles are more dynamic thanks to increased firepower and each weapon now has a secondary attack. Plus, you can now have a pet – either a cat or a monkey – aboard your ship, your crew sings updated sea shanties, and you can instantly move between your ship and land without loading screens.
The game’s updated graphics are immediately noticeable, and Ubisoft is emphasizing the improved visuals alongside richer, more detailed environments. This remake includes all the features you’d expect, like higher resolution textures, better lighting, and a brand new, realistic weather system.
The game’s combat has been completely redesigned to be fast-paced and action-packed, featuring powerful takedowns and smoother attack combinations. Stealth has also been enhanced; you can now constantly crouch, making it more difficult for enemies to detect you.
As a long-time fan, I’m really happy with how they’ve updated the parkour! They’ve taken all the cool moves and jumps that made the original games so fun and blended them with the newer, more polished systems from the later titles. It feels fantastic – a really great mix of old and new!
I’ve been really enjoying the updated underwater sections – they feel way bigger now. And they’ve totally changed how stealth missions work! Instead of instantly failing if someone spots you, it now kicks off a fight. Honestly, it’s a huge improvement because I hated having to restart objectives all the time. It feels much more forgiving and fun now.
Besides the regular version, a special physical Collector’s Edition will also be available. You can see what’s included in the picture below.
