After much speculation, the remastered version of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is confirmed, and Jean Guesdon from Vantage Studios also shared news about the next Assassin’s Creed game, currently known as Codename Hexe.
Jonathan Dumont, the content director for the Assassin’s Creed series, recently became the creative director of the new game following Clint Hocking’s exit. He shared that the game is being carefully developed by the experienced team at Ubisoft Montreal, and promised a distinctive, more mature, story-focused Assassin’s Creed adventure set during a crucial historical period.
This scene might be set during the witch trials that took place in Germany in the early 1600s. The main character is said to be Elsa, a witch with abilities like controlling others, who somehow joins forces with the Assassins and learns their skills.
Guesdon didn’t say whether the rumors were accurate, but explained the team needs more time before they can share details about the project. He said they’re focused on making their vision a reality and will remain quiet for now, though they appreciate the excitement from fans and promise to reveal more when they’re ready.
Originally revealed in 2022 with Assassin’s Creed Shadows (then called Codename Red), Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe is shaping up to be different from recent games in the series. Unlike the large, open worlds of past titles, Hexe is expected to be a more focused, story-driven experience with some open-world aspects. Ubisoft has stated it won’t be a traditional RPG, meaning you probably won’t be able to heavily customize your character’s abilities like you could in games like Odyssey or Shadows.
According to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, the gameplay in the upcoming title could be a significant departure from what we’ve seen so far. It’s been completely reworked, and Ubisoft reportedly used contortionists to create realistic character movements. Although the release is still some time away, it’s currently aiming for a Holiday 2027 launch.
