Following changes in creative leadership on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe – including a reported shift away from magical elements – the game’s development team has reportedly been reduced. According to sources at Insider Gaming, around 50 developers were removed from the project last week.
The cancellation of Project Alterra, a game similar to Animal Crossing, was recently announced. However, the development team hasn’t been fired. They’ve been moved to Ubisoft’s internal team for assigning projects and have three months to find a new one to work on. If they don’t, they may lose their jobs.
It’s surprising to see so many developers being let go, particularly since development on Codename Hexe seemed to be progressing nicely. The reason appears to be cost control, and these changes might push the game’s release date from the intended June 2027 to the holiday season of that year – a timeframe previously suggested by Henderson.
I was really surprised to hear about the changes happening with the game! Apparently, Stéphane Guesdon is now leading the creative side of things, which makes sense since he recently became head of content for Assassin’s Creed at Vantage Studios. It sounds like he’s taking over from Clint Hocking, and on top of that, Benoit Richer, who joined as game director back in January, has also moved on. It’s a lot of shifts happening at once!
Ubisoft hasn’t officially shown off Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe or announced when it will be released. They recently revealed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a remake of the popular 2013 game, and said it will launch on July 9th.
