Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe Team Changes Are a “Standard Part of How We Operate,” Says Ubisoft

In addition to the announced departures of key leaders like creative director Clint Hocking and game director Benoit Richer, reports suggest that around 50 developers have recently left the Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe project. While the game is currently aiming for a June 2027 release, Ubisoft Montreal might delay it to the holiday season of 2027 to stay within budget.

The developers in question have reportedly been moved to an “Interproject” team. This team is for developers who need to find a new project to work on within three months, or they risk losing their jobs. When asked about this, Ubisoft stated that moving employees between teams is a normal practice for them.

When our project needs shift, team members may move to different projects where their skills are best utilized. This allows us to adapt quickly and effectively as our work changes.

The announcement didn’t explain why these developers left. While it’s common for developers to move between projects, particularly when one is finishing and another is starting, Ubisoft didn’t clarify what happened with the specific team involved – the Interproject team.

Since Ubisoft hasn’t officially announced Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe yet, it’s not surprising to hear reports that planned magical features, like controlling a cat, are being scaled back. However, considering the game was supposedly progressing well before the recent changes in direction, it makes you question what’s happening behind the scenes.

I’m really excited to find out the official title, but until then, I’m totally hyped for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced! It looks amazing and comes out on July 9th, which can’t come soon enough!
