In simple terms, the series Atomic on Sky Atlantic introduces characters Alfie Allen as Max and Shazad Latif as JJ. Their paths cross unexpectedly in the vast Sahara desert during an illicit venture. Soon, they find themselves unwittingly entangled in a perilous, high-stakes mission that neither agreed to – one involving the transportation of highly enriched uranium across North Africa and the Middle East, which carries significant risks and chaos.
However, as “the CIA, MI6, and a worldwide network of adversarial groups are rapidly approaching,” the duo needs to collaborate if they aim to endure.
With “the CIA, MI6, and numerous enemies hot on their heels,” the pair must join forces in order to remain alive.
And another variation: The duo finds themselves in a tight spot as “they are being pursued by the CIA, MI6, and various opposing factions worldwide.” To survive, they need to team up.
Originally, Atomic was described by writer Gregory Burke as a story involving “the two most unsuitable individuals tasked with saving the planet.
In their unlikely encounter, Max’s path crosses with JJ’s, resulting in an unanticipated friendship. As fate would have it, they find themselves unwittingly involved in transporting uranium across North Africa. Pursued by a formidable cartel and the CIA, they confront a critical decision: either escape to ensure their own safety or act courageously to prevent a nuclear weapon from falling into the wrong hands.
According to Burke, the project originated from a 2006 book titled “The Atomic Bazaar” written by the late journalist William Langewiesche.
The book alerts us to the potential threat of terrorist organizations or unauthorized entities acquiring sufficient nuclear material to assemble a rudimentary atomic bomb. It delves into the procedures and individuals implicated, encompassing terrorists and criminal organizations such as drug cartels.
I drew inspiration from the book to shape my narrative, yet I significantly altered the other elements. In crafting my tale, I picked characters representative of the significant security challenges at hand – terrorists and drug dealers.
As a film enthusiast, I’d say the plot delves into notions of nuclear physics and quantum mechanics, mirroring the concept that every atom could exist in multiple states. This idea resonates with our characters too; their journeys are just as unpredictable and complex as the theories they embody.
In addition to Allen and Latif, several well-known actors and a few newcomers make up the cast.

The plot thickens as he embarks on a mission to Syria, joining forces with Cassie in an attempt to apprehend Max and JJ. Quite the adventure, wouldn’t you agree?

Franklin Virgüez plays Antonio Alam
