Attack on Titan Confirms a Special Project With New Look At Eren

Since it first aired in 2013, the anime Attack on Titan has become incredibly popular, based on the original manga by Hajime Isayama. The first three seasons were created by WIT Studio, but they eventually had to hand the project over to MAPPA due to a demanding schedule for adapting the final part of the story. MAPPA’s excellent animation proved a great fit for the series. WIT Studio animated the story from the beginning, while MAPPA took over everything that happened after the time jump. The story mainly follows Eren and his friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert.

Even though Attack on Titan has finished, the animation studio WIT Studio continues to delight fans with new content. They recently announced a monthly illustration project starting April 18th, featuring new artwork of popular characters by Kyōji Asano. Asano played a key role in the anime’s first three seasons as Chief Animation Director, Character Designer, Key Animator, and director of the opening and ending sequences.

Attack on Titan Reveals New Look At Eren Yeager

Because the animation studio didn’t update the scenes to reflect the later part of the story, the project seems to be using character designs from the first three seasons. The new visuals show Eren looking as he did before the time-skip. The studio’s website offers more information and confirms the project is available at the I.G & WIT Anime Studio Store.

The project will showcase these images in stores and give them away as free gifts to fans who purchase merchandise. To receive a bonus postcard, customers need to spend at least 2,000 yen on Attack on Titan items. Only one postcard will be given per purchase at the I.G & WIT Anime Studio Stores in Tokyo and Kyoto.

What’s Next For Attack on Titan?

The story concludes with hints of more to come, but so far, the creator, Hajime Isayama, hasn’t announced any plans for a sequel or spin-off. Isayama faced a lot of stress and exhaustion while creating the manga, often struggling to meet the publisher’s deadlines. Despite this, new content like artwork and special editions are still being released, even without confirmation of a new anime or manga series.

I saw that the series really began its next phase in 2026 with a special release in Dolby Cinema. It was a remastered version of Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter – The Last Attack, basically combining the two final parts of the anime into one film. Given how popular Attack on Titan still is, I wouldn’t be surprised if they released more similar projects down the line. If you’re interested in watching everything, all the seasons are currently available on Crunchyroll and Hulu.
