The Spring 2026 anime season is proving to be full of surprises. While most new anime premiere on Crunchyroll, the leading streaming service for anime fans, Netflix is also making a big impact. Crunchyroll typically releases dozens of new series each season, while Netflix focuses on a mix of original content, revivals of classic anime, and a select few promising new shows. Recently, Netflix has been increasing its investment in new anime series and films, mirroring the industry’s rapid growth. This April, fans were excited to see exclusive releases like Dandelion from the creator of Gintama, and The Ramparts of Ice on Netflix.
I’ve noticed some great shows recently appeared on the platform, including popular titles like Overlord and Spy x Family. According to What’s on Netflix, they’ve just released a list of what’s coming in May 2026. While there aren’t a ton of completely new series being added, fans of Detective Conan will be happy to know new episodes are on their way. Because it’s such a long-running series, Netflix is rolling them out in seasonal batches. The first two seasons are already available, and season three will be added on May 1st, 2026.
What Is Detective Conan About?

The popular anime series is based on Gosho Aoyama’s award-winning manga, originally known as Case Closed and internationally as Detective Conan. The manga first appeared in 1994, and TMS Entertainment adapted it into an anime two years later. Though the manga is more popular in Japan than in Western countries, the series is now starting to gain more attention worldwide. With over 270 million copies sold, it’s one of the best-selling manga series ever, ranking fourth all-time.
The story follows Shinichi Kudo, a brilliant 17-year-old detective, as he looks into strange happenings at an amusement park. He’s then attacked and given a poison, APTX 4869, that shrinks his body to that of a seven-year-old. Now a child, Shinichi tries to keep his true identity a secret while working to uncover the group responsible for his condition.
After being transformed into a child, he goes by the name Conan Edogawa and moves in with his friend Ran Mouri and her father, Kogoro, a private detective. Because he can’t openly solve mysteries as a child, Conan often pretends Kogoro is the one who figured them out, using his voice to make it sound convincing. Over the past twenty years, the series has grown to include 107 manga volumes, more than 1150 anime episodes, and 28 full-length movies.
