The anime’s storytelling began to slow down, with episodes feeling drawn out even when they should have covered more ground. When the series returned with a new format – 26 episodes a year divided into two parts – fans hoped for a faster pace, particularly as the story reached its climax and important plotlines were coming up. Unfortunately, the anime hasn’t fixed its previous pacing problems and has even added new ones, which could be disappointing for viewers.

Released in 2002, The Mark of Kri is an action-adventure game known for its striking visuals. It blends cartoon-like characters with surprisingly graphic violence, all set within a beautiful Polynesian-inspired fantasy world drawing from Maori mythology. Critics loved the game’s unique art style and responsive controls, and players who gave it a try found it to be a fun, roughly 10-hour experience. Unfortunately, despite positive reviews, The Mark of Kri didn’t sell well and was largely overlooked when it first came out.

While it hasn’t reached the popularity or sales numbers of Mortal Kombat 11 (which sold over 15 million copies by 2022), it’s still a very successful fighting game. As of November 2025, Street Fighter 6 – its biggest rival – has sold over six million copies.

Dr. Cox’s return to Sacred Heart isn’t simply to make J.D.’s life difficult; he’s also dealing with a health crisis of his own. He collapses and is diagnosed with microscopic polyangiitis, a rare autoimmune disease with potentially serious complications. This leads to a deeply emotional scene between Cox and J.D. that fundamentally changes their dynamic. As actor John McGinley explained to TV Line, that was the core intention behind the storyline.
