Elden Ring was initially expected to be a showcase title for the new Nintendo Switch 2, highlighting its power. However, it wasn’t finished in time for the console’s launch and was postponed. Now, there’s strong evidence suggesting the game, potentially called the Tarnished Edition, is nearly ready for release.
Amazon Opens Pre-Orders For Elden Ring On Switch 2

Nintendo hasn’t started taking pre-orders for Elden Ring on the Switch 2 yet. While a page for the Tarnished Edition exists on Nintendo’s website, it doesn’t include a release date. However, Amazon is now allowing customers to pre-order the game for the Switch 2.
The physical version of the game is now available for pre-order on Amazon, even though Nintendo and FromSoftware haven’t officially announced it yet. It costs $79.99. Amazon likely knows the release date for the special ‘Tarnished Edition,’ but they aren’t sharing it just yet, or it’s not finalized.
So, I saw Amazon has Elden Ring listed with a release date of December 31, 2026, and it got me thinking… don’t panic! It doesn’t mean FromSoftware is actually planning to drop it on New Year’s Eve of 2026. Apparently, Amazon just uses that placeholder date when they don’t have the real release date, or aren’t allowed to share it yet. It’s just a standard thing they do!
The fact that pre-orders are now available on Amazon is a good indication that an official announcement is coming soon. This is especially true considering the latest information about how last year’s Game of the Year is now performing on the Nintendo console, following improvements made by the developers after its initial delay.
Elden Ring’s Tarnished Edition Costs $80
Last month at GDC, people got to try Elden Ring on the new Switch 2, and the general feeling was that it runs much better than in previous demos. The $80 price is a surprise, but not entirely unexpected.
The Nintendo Switch version of Elden Ring is called the Tarnished Edition. It features new weapons and starting classes, and crucially, it includes everything from the original game plus the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, making it the complete Elden Ring experience.
Elden Ring is available as a bundle with its DLC on other platforms for around $80. Considering the upcoming “Tarnished Edition” for the Switch 2 will likely include even more content, a price of $80 seems reasonable. We’re hoping to hear an official release date for Elden Ring on Switch 2 soon – ideally within the next few days – along with news about “The Duskbloods,” the FromSoftware game also planned for release on the Switch 2 this year.
