It simply means the writing is well-crafted, with jokes that land because of careful timing, well-developed characters, and meaningful ideas. Here are some recent comedies that fit the bill – they’re genuinely funny and worth watching.

I just finished watching Silver Bullet on Tubi, and it’s a fun horror movie from 1985! It’s based on one of Stephen King’s stories, Cycle of the Werewolf, and he actually wrote the screenplay himself. The movie stars Gary Busey, Everett McGill, and Corey Haim – a great cast! Honestly, it’s not super scary, but it’s become known as a really good werewolf movie over the years. It didn’t get a lot of love from critics when it first came out, but I think Busey’s performance is particularly memorable and stands out even now.
