Rumors are circulating about Hayley Atwell’s Captain Peggy Carter potentially appearing in multiple forms in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. While Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed Captain Carter‘s involvement, the film – directed by The Russo Brothers – is set to bring back other familiar faces, including Anthony Mackie as Captain America.
Hayley Atwell rumored to play multiple versions of Peggy in Avengers: Doomsday
According to a new report from reliable source MyTimeToShowHello, Hayley Atwell will portray different iterations of Captain Peggy Carter in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. The source shared this information on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating simply that Atwell is playing multiple Peggys in the movie.
A version of Peggy Carter seen in the upcoming Doomsday project could be the one who had a life with Steve Rogers after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Rogers chose to be with this Peggy after he returned the Infinity Stones, and a trailer description shared by MTTSH seems to confirm their appearance together.
We might see a version of Captain Carter similar to the one from the ‘What If…?’ series. Whether it’s her exactly or another alternate version, giving this character a significant role would please fans, particularly after her death in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
With rumors swirling about different versions of Captain Carter, we could see a team-up featuring multiple Captain Americas and other super-soldiers, potentially including Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, John Walker, and Alexei Shostakov. Some fans also think we might even see an evil alternate version of Captain Carter team up with Doctor Doom.
However, none of this has been officially confirmed. Until Marvel makes an announcement, we should be cautious about assuming there are multiple versions of Peggy Carter.
Earlier this year, Atwell responded to rumors about her potential return in Doomsday during an interview with Collider. When asked about the reports, she jokingly questioned their source, asking, “Really? Who…on Reddit? Who’s saying that?”
In a recent interview with Den of Geek, the actress shared that she’s eager to reprise her role in future Marvel films, specifically mentioning Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. She feels there’s still a lot more to explore with her character, noting that her own growth as an actor would allow her to bring new depth to the role. She believes Captain Carter hasn’t had enough screen time and deserves further development.
Avengers: Doomsday premieres on December 18, 2026.
