David Harbour, known for playing Red Guardian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and starring in Stranger Things, is facing some controversy after accusations from his co-star, Millie Bobby Brown. Harbour has a packed schedule for the next couple of years, including filming the fifth season of Stranger Things and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. The close father-daughter relationship between his character, Jim Hopper, and Brown’s Eleven is expected to be a major focus of the final Stranger Things season.
With excitement growing for the new season of Stranger Things, a disagreement unexpectedly happened between David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown just before the show premiered on Netflix on November 26th.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Millie Bobby Brown, the star of Stranger Things, filed a complaint against her co-star David Harbour before Season 5 filming began. The report details that the 21-year-old actress made numerous accusations – which were not of a sexual nature – against the 50-year-old actor, triggering an investigation that lasted several months.
The Daily Mail reported that while filming the fifth season, actress Brown had someone present to support her. An internal investigation reportedly took place, though the results weren’t known. Netflix didn’t offer any statement about the situation.
Despite rumors surfacing after Lily Allen’s new album, “West End Girl” – which hinted at possible infidelity – a source told the Daily Mail that Allen consistently stood by her husband during a very difficult time.
David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown have been part of Stranger Things since the very beginning, starting with Season 1 in 2016. In a July 2021 interview on That Scene with Dan Patrick, Harbour shared that he feels very protective of his connection with Brown, explaining he’s always felt a strong, fatherly affection for her.
I feel very protective of her and genuinely worry about the challenges she faces with fame. It’s always been a deep, fatherly kind of affection.
In an August 2018 interview with Variety, Brown referred to her co-stars, David Harbour and Winona Ryder, as her “parents,” and shared that Harbour often looked out for her when it came to her romantic relationships.
Winona Ryder and David Harbour feel like parental figures to me. They’re always checking in on set – asking about what I’m doing, what I’m eating, and who I’m talking to. David even jokingly asks if I have another boyfriend! If Hopper and Joyce get back together in the show, it would mean Will and Eleven would become step-siblings, which I’d really love, because Noah Schnapp is one of my best friends.
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be released in a unique way. The first four episodes will be available starting November 26, 2025, followed by the next three episodes on Christmas Day. Fans can then see the concluding episode both on Netflix and in movie theaters on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025.
Once Stranger Things finishes, David Harbour will likely focus on promoting Avengers: Doomsday, a big Marvel movie coming out in 2026. He’s joined by other well-known actors in the film, including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Chris Hemsworth, and Robert Downey Jr.
Will Red Guardian’s Fate in Avengers 5 Be Affected by David Harbour’s Controversy?

It’s currently unclear if the recent issues surrounding David Harbour will have any impact on his character, Red Guardian, in upcoming Avengers movies like Doomsday or Secret Wars.
Because the details of the investigation haven’t been shared – and it’s unclear if they ever will be – Marvel Studios might not have known about the issues surrounding Harbour. This is because Stranger Things started filming in January 2024, well before Doomsday began production in April 2025.
It’s likely that what happened with the actor won’t change Red Guardian’s fate in Avengers: Doomsday. Filming finished in September 2025, so any decisions about the character’s story were probably made for creative reasons, not in response to the recent controversy. If Red Guardian dies in the movie, it’s safe to assume the actor’s issues didn’t influence that decision.
