The Xbox exclusive game Avowed is now coming to PlayStation 5, and you can pre-order it starting today. While we don’t have an exact release date yet, the developers at Obsidian Entertainment have confirmed a significant update is planned for sometime in 2026.
The game will celebrate its one-year anniversary on February 18, 2026, making that a likely time to release the PS5 update and deliver the best possible experience for players.
Avowed is getting even more content for both players who’ve already explored the world and those just starting out. Obsidian recently detailed upcoming updates and additions during a New Game Plus event, giving us a better understanding of how the game is developing after its initial release.
What’s included in Avowed’s PS5 release and new update

Players will soon be able to choose from new races like the Aumaua and Dwarves, adding more variety to the game and opening up new ways to play. Each race looks different and has unique abilities that change how characters move, fight, and explore the world.
This update adds a New Game Plus mode, letting players replay the story with their existing skills and equipment. However, they’ll start back at level one to keep the challenge balanced and prevent them from being too powerful right away.
To make New Game Plus more challenging and interesting, enemies will have new abilities. They’ll be more resistant to certain types of damage and harder to stun, which will make each fight feel different, even if you’ve played through the game before.

We’re adding a special photo mode based on what players have asked for! It will let you easily take great pictures of your character while you’re exploring or during conversations, without having to struggle with the camera angles.
Obsidian has confirmed that how they update Avowed after its release will largely depend on what players want. They’re working closely with their community team to focus on the most requested improvements and features.
