Good news for Baldur’s Gate 3 players: a new book is coming that tells the backstory of the character voiced by Neil Newbon in the game.
Okay, so huge news for Baldur’s Gate 3 fans! There’s a new book coming out – it’s a spin-off focused on Astarion, and it’s being written by T Kingfisher. It’s set to drop on September 29th, 2026, published by Random House Worlds. And the best part? Antony Newbon is coming back to voice the audiobook as Astarion again, which is awesome!
This book is a prequel that tells the story of Astarion, a popular character from the video game, and his life as a servant to the powerful vampire Cazador Szarr, before the game’s events begin.
After the novel was finished, Stephen Rooney, a senior writer for Baldur’s Gate 3, reviewed it to make sure it felt true to the game’s story and setting.
Okay, so in the game’s lore, it’s pretty rough – this vampire, Astarion, had a seriously awful time with a guy named Cazador Szarr. Szarr basically tortured him, carving him up and breaking him down completely, both in his mind and body. It was a really dark and abusive situation, and it left Astarion incredibly damaged.

This isn’t the only Baldur’s Gate 3 book planned, and more are coming out before the TV series begins.
On July 21st, Random House Worlds is releasing Baldur’s Gate 3: The Necromancy of Thay. This notebook is a replica of the in-game quest item, featuring grid-paper pages just like the original.
Fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 will have two new items to look forward to in 2026. Ten Speed Press is releasing The Official Baldur’s Gate 3 Colouring Book on August 11th, featuring 40 black-and-white illustrations by Jaki King of the game’s characters, creatures, and locations. They’re also publishing Feast for a Tenday: The Official Baldur’s Gate Cookbook on November 3rd.
Last year, Newbon told us about his game, Starfinder: Afterlight, describing it as a roleplaying game with an isometric perspective, built using the rules from Paizo’s popular Starfinder 2nd edition.

He explained that Starfinder is a game that evolved from Pathfinder, which itself was created as a branch from Dungeons & Dragons, but it’s a distinct game with its own rules and setting.
Starfinder is a really imaginative blend of fantasy and science fiction, with a surprising Western feel. It’s a great game for roleplaying, letting you become a hero and battle mysterious threats – potentially even saving the universe! Though, honestly, sometimes it’s just about enjoying the moment and having a good time, maybe with some snacks.
