It appears that Battlefield 6 could potentially be the most violent game in the series, as evidenced by its M (Mature 17+) rating on the Xbox store. According to GamesRadar, this rating is due to the inclusion of Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, and Strong Language within the multiplayer shooter’s content.
It’s worth highlighting that the recent Battlefield games, such as Battlefield 1, 5, and 2042, have not received a gore rating from the ESRB. Interestingly, Battlefield 6 is the first game in this series to include gore since Battlefield 3, 4, and Hardline. (Paraphrased by me)
It’s important to mention that, based on the open betas held last month, the multiplayer modes for Battlefield 6 don’t seem excessively violent compared to typical multiplayer shooters. In fact, they appear less gory than Battlefield 2042 and 5. This implies that the rating for the upcoming game may be more related to its single-player campaign, which hasn’t been fully revealed yet.
Battlefield 6 is being crafted for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a scheduled release set for October 10th. The computer version of the game has recently received attention from EA’s marketing team due to a fresh trailer, along with remarks by Technical Director Christian Buhl. He discussed how meeting low minimum requirements has been crucial for the teams developing the game under Battlefield Studios’ flag.
During development, when enhancing the game’s large-scale and dynamic multiplayer maps for smooth operation on various devices, Buhl stated that adjustments had to be made by both artists and tech artists. He emphasized that extensive work was done to ensure optimal performance, regardless of whether you have minimum or top-tier specifications, promising a gaming experience consistent with our intended target.
In addition, Buhl emphasized the significance of creating a game that runs smoothly on entry-level PCs for a broader audience reach. He stated, “Minimum specifications are indeed one of our top priorities… It’s crucial not only from a commercial and business standpoint but also because we aim to have as many players as possible enjoying the game.
Through extensive research and testing, we pushed the game to run on various hardware, both higher and lower than our minimum and suggested specifications. We identified our capabilities and requirements for success in terms of market reach, focusing specifically on expanding the PC gaming audience. This aspect has proven vital.
It’s been made clear by Buhl that Battlefield Studios currently does not intend to incorporate ray tracing into Battlefield 6, a departure from the marketing strategy since Battlefield 5’s release which heavily emphasized ray tracing, coinciding with the debut of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2000 series graphics cards.
