Battlefield Studios is restarting its Battlefield Labs playtests to get feedback on upcoming changes to the popular multiplayer game. In a detailed Reddit post, the developers explained that these Labs are part of their plan to make this the biggest and most exciting Battlefield experience ever, with ongoing updates and improvements.
Battlefield Labs previously allowed us to quickly test new ideas and get feedback before adding them to the game. Now, we’re expanding on that system to improve how we test things with players, as we work towards creating the most ambitious and exciting Battlefield experience yet.
Starting things off, Battlefield Labs will give a limited number of players an early look at new content coming to Battlefield 6 on December 9th. This first playtest will focus on improving the core combat experience, including fixing issues like silent footsteps, making sure hits register correctly, and balancing the overall combat system. This initial phase of Battlefield Labs will only be available on PC, starting December 2nd in three regions: Asia-Pacific (APAC) from 8 PM to 10 PM JST, Europe (EU) from 7 PM to 9 PM CET, and North America (NA) from 4 PM to 6 PM PST.
Battlefield Studios has confirmed that players participating in the Labs program won’t be able to discuss their experiences publicly due to a non-disclosure agreement. Those who registered will receive an email invitation to join Battlefield Labs.
So, I heard they’re planning more playtests for Battlefield Labs, and it’s all to help them polish up Battlefield 6. They’re going to run things in a couple of ways. First, they’ll have scheduled play sessions where we can really dig into trying out the newest, experimental features. But they’ll also do these quick, surprise sessions – kinda like a ‘drop everything and play!’ – to get fast feedback on how the core gameplay feels. It sounds like they’re really trying to get our input early and often, which is awesome.
The team plans to make future Battlefield Labs sessions even more experimental. They’ll be testing bigger changes, such as different map designs, gameplay speed, and team sizes – including options for fewer players or more vehicles. Expect to see new maps, game modes, and unique rules, as well as early versions of new features and systems. They’ll also be testing environmental effects, content planned for future seasons, and improvements to how the game runs.
Players will be happy to hear that more playtests are confirmed, showing Battlefield Studios is committed to listening to its community. Just last week, lead designer Florian Le Bihan announced a complete overhaul of the game’s audio, addressing concerns that enemy footsteps and vehicles were often difficult to hear.
Battlefield 6 is playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Since launching in October, it’s been performing well, and may have recently impacted sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in Europe.
