
Production is starting on Amazon’s TV series based on God of War, and a highly acclaimed director has joined the project.
Deadline reports that Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes of a new TV series based on the story of Norse mythology from the recent God of War games.
Director Phil Toye has worked on many popular and award-winning TV series, including The Boys, Fallout, The Walking Dead, The Good Wife, and Shogun. He won an Emmy for his work on Shogun.
Ronald D. Moore will oversee the show as showrunner. He’s known for his work on popular series like Outlander, For All Mankind, and Battlestar Galactica.
According to reports, they are currently in pre-production and casting for the project, and filming is expected to begin in March 2026.
So, the cogs are beginning to turn on this adaptation, which seems to be gathering some top talent.
A key element for viewers will be the actors chosen for the roles, and the selection of the actor to play Kratos will be especially closely watched.
Christopher Judge brings the character to life through both his voice acting and performance capture in the most recent games.
There’s been speculation about whether the actor will return for the TV series, but he claims he has no idea if that will happen. Judge has also expressed his hope that whoever takes on the role truly appreciates the character, just like he and the fans do.
