As a huge fan of classic TV, I was excited to hear that Baywatch is coming back! For those who might not remember, Baywatch was this awesome show about lifeguards in Los Angeles. It only lasted one season originally on NBC, but it became a massive hit in syndication – seriously, over a billion people watched it at its peak, which is a world record! They’ve done spin-offs like Baywatch: Hawaii and Baywatch Nights, and even a movie with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, but now they’re giving the show a complete reboot, and there’s an open casting call!
Casting is underway for the Baywatch reboot, which is being produced by Fox. Producers are looking for people to audition on February 18th for a variety of roles – including lifeguards, beachgoers, bartenders, and more – and are asking applicants to dress in beach-themed clothing that is polished and professional, but not overly revealing. They want to see swimwear-inspired looks that are still tasteful. The casting call is open to all types, as they are also considering roles that haven’t been fully developed yet.
I have such fond memories of the original Baywatch! David Hasselhoff was perfect as Mitch Buchannon, the lead lifeguard. But what I always loved was how it launched so many young careers. A lot of the cast, like Pamela Anderson, Erika Eleniak, Yasmine Bleeth, Nicole Eggert, Alexandra Paul, Billy Warlock, Jeremy Jackson, Jason Momoa, and Parker Stevenson, came from modeling backgrounds – and some were even Playboy models before hitting the beach! It was a real star-making show.
What to Expect from the New Baywatch Series?

The upcoming Baywatch series is being produced by Lara Olsen, known for her work on shows like Reign and the 90210 reboot. It appears the new series will stay true to the elements that made the original Baywatch so popular in the 1990s. The show will follow lifeguards as they train new recruits, navigate dangerous situations, and deal with their personal lives. Casting is open to actors over 18, with a focus on finding new talent who embody the spirit of Southern California to introduce Baywatch to a new generation.
The original show was criticized for overly sexualizing its actors, and a recent Hulu documentary, After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, highlighted how cast members – both men and women – were let go for even minor weight gain. This led to body image issues and mental health struggles for many. It raises questions about how the new Fox reboot will handle its cast and what safeguards will be in place to protect the well-being of its stars.
