BBC tipped for ‘major’ Poirot TV series with new star in role – and it could be on screens sooner than you think

As a longtime viewer, I have to say David Suchet was Poirot. For over two decades, from 1989 to 2013, his portrayal graced our screens, and those Agatha Christie mysteries became a comforting, regular fixture on television. It really was a golden age for mystery drama, and Suchet’s performance defined the character for a whole generation.

I’m so excited! It’s been 13 years since the last Poirot series on ITV finished, and now I’m hearing that the brilliant detective is coming back! This time, it sounds like we’ll be seeing him on the BBC, which is fantastic news for fans like me.

The BBC is developing a large-scale television series adapted from Agatha Christie’s novels, and there was significant competition among studios to secure the rights, according to Deadline.

The report indicates the BBC is strongly committed to the series, potentially funding it for up to three seasons in the years ahead. Viewers can likely expect it to premiere in the latter part of 2027.

The BBC declined to comment on the news when approached by TopMob.

Benji Walters, known for his work on shows like ITV’s Code of Silence, Netflix’s Obsession, The Leopard, and BBC’s Noughts & Crosses, is adapting Agatha Christie’s work for television again.

So, who will play the main character? Fans will have to be patient for an official announcement, but according to Deadline, the casting process is now beginning.

David Suchet is often considered the most iconic portrayal of Hercule Poirot, but many actors have played the detective over time. These include Albert Finney, Peter Ustinov, Kenneth Branagh, John Malkovich, Alfred Molina, and Peter Dinklage, who have all starred in different movies, TV shows, and audio adaptations.

Details about the story and script are currently being kept secret. However, with so many original Hercule Poirot novels and short stories – a total of 84! – there’s plenty of material to work with, and we’re excited to see how this new version unfolds.
