
Cartoon Network is a major force in animation, but Disney Channel has also created many popular and beloved franchises. Even though shows like Gravity Falls and The Owl House were relatively short-lived, they remain incredibly popular with fans. Another Disney animated series, Amphibia, has built a dedicated following, and its creator has hinted at some significant news. Reports suggest this news will be a mix of good and bad, leading to much speculation about the show’s future.
Animator Matt Braly, known for creating the Disney series Amphibia, recently announced he has two major updates to share this week – one positive, and one less so. While he didn’t say if the news concerns Amphibia, Braly has a strong background in animation, having worked on popular shows like Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Big City Greens, and The Owl House. He also contributed to the animated film The Mitchells Vs. The Machines. Currently, Braly is developing another film with Sony Pictures Animation, but details about that project remain secret.
Will Amphibia Return?
I’m still holding out hope for more Amphibia, and it sounds like creator Matt Braly might be too! He’s dropped some hints that he’s thinking about revisiting Anne and the gang sometime down the line. Now, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be a new season on Disney Channel, but he’s really excited about finding a different, unexpected way to tell another story in that world. He and the team have some awesome ideas about how to continue the adventures, even if it’s not in the traditional TV format. It’s not a definite ‘yes’ yet, but it’s definitely a glimmer of hope for more Amphibia goodness!
Matt Braly is joining forces with Rebecca Sugar, the creator of Steven Universe, on a new animated film from Sony. Reports indicate Matt will direct the movie and collaborate with Sugar on the story. Interestingly, Braly was also involved in the viral hit Knights of Guinevere, a pilot created by Owl House’s Dana Terrace. The pilot episode is currently on YouTube with over sixteen million views.
It’s interesting that Amphibia has reappeared on Disney Channel through the Chibiverse series. This show features smaller, adorable versions of many Disney characters, and it brought back characters from Amphibia, letting them interact with those from shows like Gravity Falls and The Owl House. Although a full revival of Amphibia may not happen, it’s possible we haven’t seen the last of the franchise.
