Damien Molony returns as detective Jim Bergerac in a new season of the popular crime drama, Bergerac. The show, set in Jersey, is a remake of the classic 1980s series.
The first season, which debuted on U&Drama in February 2025, followed Jim as he grieved the loss of his wife and raised his daughter, Kim (played by Chloe Sweetlove), with support from his mother-in-law, Charlie (Zoe Wanamaker).
With the start of the new season, it’s been a year and a half since Jim’s wife passed away. Actor Molony recently told TopMob that viewers will notice significant developments in his character’s storyline.
What really struck me about Jim in the new series is how much he’s changed. Before, he was totally consumed by sadness, really struggling to rebuild his life after everything he’d been through. It’s fascinating to see a completely different side of him now.
“I describe it as it’s like a circus tent, and Jim’s wife was the main pole, and now she’s gone.
I always pictured the first season as being about Jim, Charlie, and Kim trapped under a tarp, both trying to escape and connect with each other in the darkness. That really captures the emotional core of the show for me.

He explained that things are starting to change in the second series. People are beginning to heal and move forward with their lives – Jim’s daughter and his mother-in-law, for example, are both starting new chapters.
She’s started seeing someone else, and Jim is increasingly at risk of being alone. His friends have all moved forward with their own lives, and people are concerned he won’t be able to handle it, and might relapse into drinking. While everyone fears the worst, there’s also a glimmer of hope for him.
Molony is optimistic that Jim will start dating again in the new season. Although his first blind date is a complete failure, it unexpectedly leads him to connect with a new person on the island.
According to Molony, he meets Nicola and they immediately feel a strong connection. Both are struggling with addiction and have experienced significant pain and loss, but they recognize they can support each other in overcoming these challenges.
They were aware they often sabotaged themselves, and that tension – that feeling of being drawn to something dangerous – was a really compelling part of the character work.
Bergerac season 2 is now on U&DRAMA.
