Fans of Berserk are eagerly awaiting the return of both the manga and anime series. Following the sad loss of creator Kentaro Miura, his friends and Studio Gaga are continuing the manga. Now, fans are also helping to bring the story to life through anime, as ARCHE studio has created a fan-made adaptation called Berserk: The Dark Age. The first episode is now available, taking viewers back to the start of Guts’ challenging journey.
A fan-made episode of Berserk revisits the beginning of Guts’ journey as the Black Swordsman, picking up after the tragic events of the Eclipse and the Golden Age arc. While the original 1997 anime covered this period in its first episode, this new project, titled Berserk – The Dark Age, incorporates details directly from the manga, including the character Puck. The creators describe it as a loving tribute to both the Berserk series and the memory of its creator, Kentaro Miura, and express their gratitude for fan support. You can watch the first episode of this fan project below.
Berserk’s Anime History

Since 1997, Berserk has been adapted into anime several times, but unfortunately, much of the original manga remains untouched. After the first anime series and a film trilogy covering the Golden Age arc, Berserk returned to television in 2016. However, this revival is widely considered a controversial adaptation, with many fans feeling it didn’t capture the quality of Kentaro Miura’s artwork. Following the release of Berserk: Memorial Edition, there’s still no confirmation of future anime adaptations for this dark fantasy series.
Fans of Berserk are facing more disappointing news regarding the manga. Although Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga have continued the series after Kentaro Miura’s passing, a new chapter hasn’t been released in Young Animal for over six months. The story last left Guts trapped in an inescapable cave, while his companions formed an alliance with the Kushan Empire to challenge Griffith. Now, Guts must fight to survive and finally achieve his long-awaited revenge.
