The Game Awards this year feature a truly impressive selection of games. Usually, some categories, like Best RPG or Game of the Year, seem pretty predictable. But 2025 has seen so many excellent releases that it’s difficult to say who will win. The competition is especially fierce for Best Role-Playing Game, with a strong group of nominees. One of the games in the running is Avowed from Obsidian Entertainment, and they’re still adding new content to it.
When Avowed was first announced, people were really excited and comparing it to Skyrim, which is huge! But lately, with so many new RPGs coming out – like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – it hasn’t been talked about quite as much. Plus, it’s only coming to Xbox, so not everyone will be able to play it. Still, the developers at Obsidian have been working on it and planned a big update for fall 2025. Now they’ve announced that update, and the game itself, won’t be out until February 2026. As a fan, I’m a little disappointed about the delay, but hopefully, the extra time means they can really polish it and make it something special. It’s definitely still one of the RPGs I’m most looking forward to!
Avowed Update Gets Bigger and Better, Prompted Fresh PS5 Port Rumors
Obsidian Entertainment announced that the next big content update for Avowed will now arrive in 2026, instead of fall 2025 as originally planned. They also shared a new roadmap for the RPG, which has already seen improvements like an Arachnophobia mode and enhancements to gear and abilities. The fall 2025 update will now be released as part of an “Anniversary 2026” celebration.
In February 2026, the game Avowed will celebrate its one-year anniversary with a significant update. According to a recent social media post, this update will be even bigger than initially expected. It will include all the content originally planned for the fall update, as well as extra features making it the largest update released so far. The developers encourage players to watch for further announcements about the future of Avowed.
The post itself doesn’t give us many details about what to expect in February 2026. The updated roadmap does show that the Anniversary 2026 patch will include features like Photo Mode, New Game Plus, and more character customization options. It also hints at “…and many more,” suggesting even more new content is on the way. This has led some fans to wonder if the update might actually arrive a year later than announced.
Hi everyone! As you may know from our development plans, we were aiming to release an update this fall. Unfortunately, we have to share that Avowed won’t be getting an update then. However, we’re now focusing on a bigger and better update coming next…

So, Avowed is still just on Xbox and PC right now, but this recent big update has got me thinking. A lot of games start as exclusives, but then come to PlayStation after about six months to a year. I’m kinda hoping that’s what’s happening with Avowed, and that this update is setting the stage for a PS5 release around the time of its anniversary. Fingers crossed!
RPG fans on the PlayStation 5 are a large group of players, making a release on that platform a smart move. Considering Avowed was one of the last major Xbox games guaranteed to be exclusive, and Microsoft has since indicated they’re moving away from that approach, it’s definitely possible we’ll see the game on PS5 relatively soon – perhaps after only a year as an Xbox exclusive.
Currently, the idea of Avowed coming to other platforms is just fan speculation. Obsidian Entertainment hasn’t officially announced any plans to release the RPG on anything beyond its initial platform. They also haven’t explained why they delayed sharing updates until February 2026, only mentioning it will coincide with the game’s anniversary. This doesn’t mean a PlayStation 5 version is definitely happening, so we’ll need to wait for more details in that major update to find out what’s planned.
Have you tried out Avowed yet? Or are you, like me, holding off until it comes out on PlayStation 5? Share your thoughts and join the discussion in the ComicBook Forum!
