Bizarre PlayStation PC Launcher Rumours Rubbished as Reporter Doubles Down on No More PS5 Ports

There’s a weird rumour doing the rounds claiming Sony is working on its own launcher for PC games.

We couldn’t find where this story first appeared, but the following post on X (formerly Twitter) helped it spread widely:

Okay, so the rumor mill is spinning, and it sounds like PlayStation might be building its own launcher for PC games. The big deal? They apparently want to keep all the money from their game sales, instead of splitting it with platforms like Steam. As a gamer, that could mean more PlayStation titles on PC, and hopefully, it won’t affect the price too much!

There’s ongoing speculation that this could let them prevent their games from being played on Xbox Helix, a platform that will allow other stores like Steam to operate.

Surprisingly, it also announced that Marvel’s Wolverine will be available on PC the same day it releases, and will use the previously mentioned game launcher.

Late last year, rumors started circulating that Sony might be developing a new app launcher. This speculation began after a symbol indicating cross-platform purchases was found on the PlayStation Store.

However, this news came before reports surfaced that PlayStation has stopped making PC versions of its games. According to sources like Bloomberg, Sony cancelled plans to port titles like Ghost of Yotei and Saros because they weren’t selling well.

And writing in response to this latest round of rumours, reporter Jason Schreier has doubled down.

He posted on ResetEra:

Eventually, Sony will officially announce they’ve stopped releasing PC ports. This could happen during an investor call, or perhaps when Housemarque starts promoting their new game, Saros, and is asked if a PC version is planned – at which point they’ll likely say no.

Since the rumors about a PC launcher aren’t coming from a reliable source, and Jason Schreier is a highly trusted reporter, we believe Schreier’s information is more accurate.

Currently, it looks like PlayStation has paused releasing its own games on PC, focusing instead on live service titles and collaborations with other developers.
