Despite not being a huge commercial success, the Blade Runner films have become incredibly influential in the science fiction world. Beyond its thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be human, Blade Runner is remembered for its unique and immersive dystopian style. Directors Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve created a future that felt both realistic and otherworldly. While it wouldn’t be an ideal place to live, fans will soon be able to step into that world themselves.
Behavior Interactive and PHI Studio have announced a new, immersive experience based on the world of Blade Runner, set to launch in 2027. They describe it as a visually stunning and story-driven experience that pays tribute to the original film. The experience will begin in several North American cities next year, with more details coming soon.
Okay, so the news about the immersive experience was amazing, but there was a bit of a mixed bag. They also let us know that the Blade Runner 2099 TV series is still happening and is currently slated for next year! From what I understand, they’re deep in post-production right now, which is a good sign. I’m really looking forward to seeing how that turns out.
2027 Will Be An Exciting Year for Blade Runner Fans

Fans will likely be frustrated to learn that the release of Blade Runner 2099 is delayed. The series was originally planned to premiere on Prime Video this year, but filming finished in December 2024, meaning the wait has already been quite long. Although it’s taking a while to finish the episodes, it’s good that the creators aren’t rushing post-production. Taking extra time to perfect the visual effects and maintain the look and feel of the original movies will ultimately make Blade Runner 2099 a better show.
The new series, Blade Runner 2099, is coming a bit later than planned, but it’s set to launch during an exciting year for Blade Runner fans. With Blade Runner 2049 celebrating its 10th anniversary, fans will have multiple ways to experience the world of Blade Runner, both through the show and in real-life events. While details are still limited, these immersive experiences will likely coincide with the show’s release. The studio will likely capitalize on this synergy, planning significant Blade Runner events to promote the new series.
Details about the new immersive experience are still secret, but Blade Runner is a perfect fit for this type of project. Fans will love being fully transported into that world and seeing all the incredible visuals firsthand. The original film was known for its detailed depiction of the future, and this experience promises to be just as rich. It will also be exciting to see how the story unfolds. Blade Runner always combined its unique style with thought-provoking themes, and the creators aim to do the same here. The goal is to create something that both longtime fans and new audiences will enjoy.
Honestly, I don’t think we’ll be seeing another Blade Runner movie anytime soon. While Blade Runner 2049 was amazing and critics loved it, it didn’t make a lot of money at the box office – only around $276 million worldwide, and it cost a lot to make, somewhere between $150 and $185 million. The first Blade Runner became a classic over time, even though it didn’t do great initially, but that didn’t translate into huge success for the sequel. From a studio’s point of view, it’s just tough to justify spending so much money on another film. Still, the Blade Runner universe is so rich and interesting, I think there are still stories to tell. I’m glad people are finding other ways to expand the franchise, like with TV shows or comics, because I really love that world.
