DrinkBox Studios, the team behind Guacamelee!, has announced that their new Metroidvania action RPG, Blighted, will be released on the Switch 2 and PC (via Steam) this fall. The game will also feature cooperative multiplayer.
Here is an overview of the game, via DrinkBox Studios:
About
In Blighted, a Metroidvania action RPG from the team behind Guacamelee!, you’ll fight through a strange and unsettling western world to recover your people’s lost memories. Use the dangerous power of the Blight – which can change reality itself – to uncover the secrets of this mysterious land.
Long ago, people planted seeds in the brains of those who died. These seeds would grow into trees that encircled their village. The fruit these trees bore held the memories of the deceased, allowing knowledge and traditions to be passed down through families for many years.
This went on until Sorcisto broke the sacred ritual. By eating raw brains, he became incredibly powerful and learned many secrets. He then devoured the player’s village, erased its history by destroying the memory forest, and unleashed a deadly plague upon the world.
You play as the last person left after the destruction caused by Sorcisto, struggling to remember the history of your lost civilization while battling a spreading darkness within yourself.
Dive into a strange and unsettling world inspired by the Wild West. You’ll gain a unique ability called Blight, which makes the game both more powerful and more challenging – offering something for everyone from beginners to seasoned players. Uncover hidden secrets as you master your Blight, and experience the story either solo or with a friend in co-op.
