The recent Marathon Server Slam event has concluded, and Bungie has heard player feedback on issues like performance and how often player-versus-player matches occurred. But the most talked-about topic seems to be the unique, and somewhat divisive, user interface – some players find it visually jarring, while others appreciate its distinctive style.
The new design element is here to stay, as UI designer Elliot Gray jokingly confirmed on Twitter that they have no plans to remove it. He playfully referred to himself as a ‘fontslop merchant’ while making the statement.
He admitted there’s still a lot of improvement needed, particularly regarding how players manage their items, get around the game, and handle the amount of information presented. It’s unclear if this will include fixing problems like confusing similar-looking items with different stats, or adding a way to compare weapons, but the team is committed to addressing player concerns.
Even if changes are made based on player feedback, you won’t see them when the game first launches. Marathon comes out on March 5th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and Bungie has confirmed that any updates to the game’s interface will happen after release. They’ll share a schedule for these updates later, so keep an eye out for more information.
The update will also share details about Season 1, which is launching soon after the game itself. This season includes two new maps: Outpost and Cryo Archive. Cryo Archive is a particularly challenging end-game area located on the UESC Marathon, and with so many enemy bots appearing on Tau Ceti IV, players should be prepared for a tough fight. A Ranked Mode is also being added, although Bungie hasn’t yet explained how it will function.
all jokes aside there’s plenty of work we can and will do as a team to respond to player feedback about inventory management, navigation, density of info, etc…
…but don’t think for a second that we’re gonna remove the SAUCE from the UI. #fontsloptakeover— elliott (@elliottgray) March 2, 2026
