Humble Games and Squid Shock Studios have released a new update for Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus called “Tanuki Kabuki.” This update adds a bunch of extra content after you finish the main game, like a challenging boss rush, fun Tanuki races, hidden collectibles, and several improvements to make the game even better.
Squid Shock Studios wanted to highlight the skill and unique playstyles of their players, so they redesigned combat to feel more like a performance,” explained creative director Chris Stair. “With the ‘Tanuki Kabuki’ update, players can really show off their moves, and also connect with the game’s character, Bo, through collectibles and creative customization.

Here is an overview of the update, via Humble Games:
The new “Tanuki Kabuki” update brings extra challenges, ways to play, and items to collect to the popular, hand-drawn action platformer from Squid Shock Studios. It’s available after you finish the main game!
Once you finish the main game, you’ll unlock the “Tanuki Kabuki” update, a special encore that turns Bo’s world into a lively stage. This update adds a Kabuki-style Boss Rush mode where you battle bosses in front of an audience that reacts to your performance. In Solo Mode, you can replay any boss fight from the original game. Gauntlet Mode gives you a series of challenging fights to complete in one go. You can also use optional Seals to make the game harder for bigger rewards, and the audience will cheer louder for impressive gameplay!
This update includes a new post-game quest called the Tanuki Tracker, where you’ll hunt for playful Tanuki hidden throughout the game world. Finding them lets you race them in fast-paced platforming challenges. Winning these races unlocks new additions to the Kabuki Theater, such as a practice room for combat, a jukebox featuring a Tanuki band, and Bo’s Room – a customizable space to show off furniture and collectibles. We’ve also added a free gacha machine called the Bestiary, with 77 collectible dolls featuring characters and enemies, adding more depth to the game’s story and visuals.
The “Tanuki Kabuki” update includes fresh content, plus a lot of improvements to make the game more balanced, accessible, and enjoyable. We’ve also fixed bugs and made the game more stable, and hidden a few surprises for players to find.
Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that my game, Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, is finally out! You can grab it now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam. I’m so excited for you all to play it!
