It’s really sad news – Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse are mourning the loss of Ted, the adorable dog who was such a big part of their Gone Fishing show. He was a proper star, and it’s lovely to see them leading the tributes. He’ll be missed by all of us who enjoyed watching him on screen!
The dog, well-known for appearing with the comedians during their fishing trips on their BBC show, has died. He will be seen one last time in the upcoming ninth season, the BBC has announced.
I was so heartbroken to hear about Ted. Mortimer shared that he was a truly wonderful companion, his ‘best chum,’ and he’s going to be missed terribly. It’s clear how much Ted meant to everyone, especially Mortimer, who affectionately called him ‘away boss.’
Whitehouse fondly remembered Ted, saying goodbye to his unique and beloved companion. He described Ted as one of a kind, not just a dog, and imagined him now in a heavenly place filled with briefcases. They will miss him dearly.
Lisa Clark, an executive producer for Gone Fishing, adopted Ted from a Surrey animal shelter in 2013.
Clark explained that Ted was a beloved pet and a cherished friend to Paul and Bob, especially during their time filming ‘Gone Fishing.’ Despite his newfound fame, Ted remained playful and enjoyed spending time by the river, where he was known to sneak jammy dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul.
She added that he would be deeply missed by everyone who knew him, both personally and as an actor. She said they would always remember him and that he leaves behind his beloved dog, Bo the Briard.

Ted first appeared on the show – a blend of fishing trips and heartfelt stories about life – in 2020, during its third series, and quickly became popular with viewers.
He was a playful troublemaker, always stealing the show with his charming toothy grin – whether he was unexpectedly joining the hosts while they fished, sneaking picnic snacks, or getting into countless other mischievous adventures.
He was honored with a lifetime achievement award during the Christmas special of ‘Gone Fishing,’ which was filmed in Cornwall in 2025.
While appearing on Saturday Kitchen in November 2025, Mortimer shared that Ted was 15 years old and starting to have some health problems due to his age.
Mortimer said his dog still enjoys spending time with their group and appears to be very cheerful.
He explained that while the dog doesn’t need a pram constantly, they use one for longer walks, especially when going uphill or along the riverbank.
