The power levels in the Naruto universe are already pretty high, but the new anime, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, is set to take them even further. This series, the second part of Boruto: Naruto Next Generation, jumps ahead in time, showing Boruto and his friends as older, more experienced, and significantly stronger characters. This is welcome news, as the Boruto series has faced some criticism and aimed to revitalize the franchise by focusing on a new generation of young heroes.
Early seasons of Boruto: Naruto Next Generation often relied on established, powerful characters from the original Naruto series. However, the new Two Blue Vortex arc promises to let Boruto and his generation truly shine and demonstrate their own strength. This isn’t the only improvement coming with the new series. Two Blue Vortex will also introduce a seasonal format to the Naruto franchise, which should result in a more focused story with less filler content. Ultimately, fans can expect a more mature story, more developed characters, and exciting, high-stakes battles.
Increasing the strength and abilities of characters like Boruto and his friends does come with a cost. As the Naruto series continually raises the stakes for action and excitement, its power levels become increasingly exaggerated. Naruto Shippuden already introduced incredibly powerful gods, and Boruto built upon that. Now, Two Blue Vortex has to surpass even those limits.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Destroys Naruto’s Already Fragile Power Scaling
The Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga gives us a glimpse of the incredible power levels we’ll see in the anime. A key example is the introduction of a technique called Omnipotence. This ability far surpasses the power of any villain from the original Naruto series, including characters like Itachi, Madara, and even Kaguya. Like other genjutsu techniques, Omnipotence affects the mind, similar to the Infinite Tsukuyomi, but it’s on a planetary scale – capable of replacing and altering the memories of everyone alive.
The recent appearance of Omnipotence in Boruto: Naruto Next Generation sets a new, incredibly high power level for the series. As Two Blue Vortex explores what Omnipotence means, other characters will need to gain abilities strong enough to challenge it. This makes the power level at the end of Shippuden seem quite weak by comparison. The introduction of Kaguya already made the power scaling feel unstable by diminishing Madara’s strength, but now even Kaguya appears insignificant next to the limitless potential of Omnipotence and the direction Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is taking.
Why Power Scaling Isn’t A Problem For Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Although Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is dramatically changing the power levels in the Naruto series, the shift isn’t as shocking as it could have been. Naruto Next Generations already introduced a significant power increase early on. To illustrate, in the original Naruto, young Team 7 barely survived fights against opponents like Zabuza, and even Kakashi had trouble. But in Naruto Next Generations, Team 7 faced aliens before they finished the Chunin exams. This shows that the established power dynamics within the Naruto universe have clearly evolved.
If Kaguya Ōtsutsuki had been a unique character, the power levels in Naruto might still have made sense. But when Naruto Next Generation introduced her alien clan as the main villains, the power scale became completely unbalanced. There was no going back to a more reasonable system.
The significant power increase in Naruto Next Generations suggests that Two Blue Vortex will freely explore themes of omnipotence and the abilities needed to fight against it, and the story won’t be negatively affected – the manga hasn’t suffered from this shift yet. The real issue arises when considering the entire Naruto franchise. Previous villains were established as the strongest beings in centuries, but now they seem much less formidable in comparison.
The Naruto Universe’s Power Levels Changed Too Much Too Fast
The incredible power displayed by the characters in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex promises to be really exciting. The manga has been fantastic so far, and adapting it into an animated series with current animation techniques should breathe new life into the Boruto universe and its fanbase. However, it’s also important to consider how well the new series fits with what came before, and how sustainable the franchise will be in the long run.
Both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden faced criticism for inconsistencies in how power levels increased, but at least there was some sense of progression. The time skip allowed Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke to become significantly stronger, and many other characters also improved. However, problems really started in the final story arcs of Shippuden. The Fourth Great Ninja War showed a massive leap in power, making previous strong characters seem weak in comparison. Then, Boruto took things even further, quickly escalating power levels to a point beyond what’s typical for shonen anime.
The power levels in the Naruto universe are increasing so quickly that Boruto: Two Blue Vortex might be the final chapter in the series. The manga has barely started, and it’s hard to predict how powerful characters will become by the end. Without a significant reset, both heroes and villains will likely be far beyond god-like strength. Even if the story does manage to return to the strategic ninja battles fans remember, there’s no certainty that audiences will want to see a step back in power.
With the Naruto series continuing into the Two Blue Vortex anime, there’s plenty to be excited about. We all love seeing incredible displays of strength and characters overcoming the odds. The series’ power levels are already so high that it allows for some truly over-the-top and limitless action. If this is the peak of what Naruto can offer, then we should simply enjoy the ride.
