Bungie Boss Pete Parsons Departs as Sony Starts to Take Control of Flagging Dev

According to reports, Bungie’s CEO, Pete Parsons, has stepped down as the troubled video game studio undergoes major changes.

As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that Sony has announced they’re stepping up their game with the Marathon series! They’ve expressed their intent to exercise greater control over the Marathon maker, and they plan to integrate this studio under the expansive PS Studios umbrella. This move promises an exciting future for the franchise, as it aligns with Sony’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality gaming experiences.

Following the acquisition, Bungie was given independent status distinct from PlayStation’s other primary development teams. However, decreasing sales of Destiny and the postponement of Marathon prompted Sony to intervene, aiming to address issues involving the significant investment of around $3 billion they had made.

As a devoted follower, I’d rephrase it like this: “I stepped into the CEO role back in 2016, and let’s just say it’s been one of Bungie’s rockiest eras. There have even been accusations of scandals levied against me, which hasn’t exactly endeared me to the community. I’m working hard to change that narrative.

In a departing message, he said:

Having spent over two decades contributing to the development of this remarkable studio, founding the Bungie Foundation, and nurturing vibrant communities around our projects, I’ve chosen to hand over the responsibility. This experience has been an unparalleled source of pride for me. I am immensely proud of the universes we’ve created together that are homes to millions of gamers – and above all, I am grateful for having worked alongside the brilliant team at Bungie.

As Justin Truman, stepping into the big shoes as the new CEO at Bungie, I’ve got an exciting yet challenging journey ahead. With the recent setbacks like the delay of Marathon and the unfortunate art plagiarism scandal, it’s time to rise above, learn, adapt, and lead the team forward in creating epic gaming experiences for our dedicated community. Bring on the challenge!

In an introductory message, he wrote:

At our peak performance, we collaborate with you, our dedicated players, to craft meaningful experiences together – ones that justify your energy, enthusiasm, and support for us. Experiences that I hope exceed expectations. I’ve been involved in these projects even during times when Bungie didn’t quite hit the target. Times when we stumble, but through listening to our community, we recognize our mistakes. Over the years, each of us here has grown from such experiences.

Good luck, Justin – you’re gonna need it!
