Sony’s got a lot riding on Marathon. It needs the game to be a success.
It’s disappointing to see the game hasn’t been very successful so far. Beyond the issues with stolen in-game items, it simply hasn’t gained much popularity with general gamers.
We don’t anticipate a complete failure like the Concord game, but Bungie will need a strong marketing strategy for this project to succeed.
The upcoming release, which was originally expected now, is being reworked to improve its quality. We’ll be able to try out these improvements in a Closed Technical Test running from October 22nd to October 28th.
To participate in the upcoming stress test – available on PS5 and other platforms – please register by October 16th using this link.
Here’s how Bungie describes it:
This test is a key milestone for us to evaluate the changes we’ve made since the Alpha version. We’re testing things like three maps, five character models, proximity chat, adjusted combat speed, solo queueing, and more detailed storytelling in the game world. Keep in mind this test build is still under development and won’t include everything planned for the final release of Marathon – we’re focusing specifically on how new players experience the game.
Because the test is confidential, even though some information might get out, don’t anticipate seeing any new gameplay videos online.
Assuming it goes well, though, this could be a crucial step towards the game actually coming out.
We’ve been very critical of Sony’s purchase of Bungie, but we want the game Marathon to succeed. We’re hoping this beta test shows significant progress and leads to a better final product.
