The popular show Call the Midwife is back next month for its fifteenth season, and we’re getting a sneak peek at what happens in the first episode.
The popular BBC series, known for its Christmas specials, will explore several important topics in its new episodes, such as the fight for women’s rights.
The show’s new season begins in 1971 with a women’s liberation march. Characters like Trixie Franklin, played by Helen George, and Joyce Highland, played by Renee Bailey, participate by protesting and symbolically burning their bras outside Nonnatus House.
Below are some preview images from the scenes, including appearances by Laura Main as Shelagh Turner and Natalie Quarry as Rosalind Clifford.

In the first episode of Call the Midwife season 15, the team worries about the well-being of four young children. Sister Catherine handles a delivery on her own for the first time, and the midwives also go to a women’s liberation meeting.
The latest investigation will also bring attention to important issues like premature birth, placenta previa, kidney cancer, tuberculosis, and the ongoing problem of slavery.

Beloved cast members including Judy Parfitt (Sister Monica Joan), Jenny Agutter (Sister Julienne), and Linda Bassett (Nurse Crane) are returning for the new season. You’ll also see Stephen McGann as Dr. Turner and Daniel Laurie as Reggie Jackson, both of whom appear in the picture below.

Call the Midwife’s future looks promising! Plans are underway for both a prequel series exploring the show’s history during World War II, and a feature film set in 1972 that will include familiar characters from the original series.
We know the next film will be shot on location abroad, but the specific country hasn’t been announced yet. However, creator Heidi Thomas has hinted at which country is currently the frontrunner.

“We’re narrowing down our locations as I speak, and Australia is likely, I can say that,” she said.
We’re considering several locations in Australia, and each one offers a unique setting. We’re waiting to finalize the exact spot before making any official announcements, as we’re still evaluating a few possibilities.
Call the Midwife season 15 arrives on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 11th January 2026 at 8pm.
