Can I play Battlefield 6 on gaming handheld PCs like the Steam Deck and ROG Xbox Ally?
Whether or not Battlefield 6 will run depends on the handheld gaming device you have. It’s not compatible with the Steam Deck, but it should work on Windows-powered handhelds such as the ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go 2.
No Steam Deck support at launch, sadly
Multiplayer and first-person shooter fans have a lot to look forward to this fall with games like ARC Raiders and the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. However, Battlefield 6 – the newest game in the popular Battlefield series from Electronic Arts and DICE – could be the biggest hit of them all.
After a huge multiplayer reveal in July and a very successful Open Beta in August – which actually broke a Call of Duty record – anticipation for Battlefield 6 is building as its October 10th release date approaches.
Battlefield fans are excited for the return of classic classes, plus a huge number of new weapons and gear. The game will feature the most realistic destruction the series has ever seen. It’s launching on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, and players are hoping it will also be playable on handheld gaming devices like the Steam Deck.
Battlefield 6 won’t be playable on the Steam Deck because the anti-cheat software it uses, EA Javelin, is designed to run deep within Windows and isn’t compatible with Linux, which powers the Steam Deck.
Whether or not Battlefield 6 will be playable really depends on the handheld device you have, and unfortunately, Steam Deck users are out of luck. The Deck’s hardware isn’t powerful enough to run the game smoothly, and more importantly, the game’s anti-cheat software doesn’t work with the Deck’s Linux-based operating system. Because the anti-cheat program needs to access the core of the operating system, and that’s incompatible with Linux, the game simply won’t launch on the Steam Deck.
You can install Windows on your Steam Deck to enable Secure Boot and bypass this issue, but it’s known to be a bit unstable. Plus, even with Windows, Battlefield 6 might not run smoothly because the Steam Deck doesn’t have the highest-end hardware.
What about other gaming handhelds?

Battlefield 6 can’t be played on the Steam Deck – either because its Linux operating system clashes with the game’s anti-cheat software, or because the Deck’s hardware and Windows compatibility aren’t strong enough for a good experience. However, other handheld gaming devices handle the game much better.
Powerful Windows-based gaming handhelds – like the ASUS ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, Lenovo Legion Go, and the hard-to-find MSI Claw 8 AI+ – should easily run EA’s new first-person shooter. Because they use Windows instead of Linux, you won’t have the compatibility issues sometimes seen with the Steam Deck, and these devices also have significantly better internal components.
As a Battlefield fan, I’m super excited about the new handhelds coming out! The ASUS ROG Ally and Ally X are launching really soon – like, next week! – and the Lenovo Legion Go 2 should be here by the end of October. From what I’ve seen, all three of these devices are going to be amazing for playing Battlefield 6 on the go.

Battlefield 6 is designed to run well even on less powerful hardware, which is great for handheld gaming devices. The recent public test version performed smoothly on those systems, suggesting the full game will offer a good experience for a wide range of players.
You’ll likely need to lower the graphics settings in games, as even the best gaming handhelds aren’t as powerful as a typical gaming PC. However, the smaller screens and technologies like AMD FSR mean that games still look great even with lower resolutions and settings.
You can now preorder Battlefield 6 for $69.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PC (through Steam, Epic Games, and EA), and PlayStation 5. While the standard version isn’t currently discounted, the $100 Phantom Edition is available for $89.99 at Loaded (previously known as CDKeys) on Xbox.
